•President, ADC, NDC candidates face public scrutiny as campaign begins

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) lifted its ban on political campaigning on 19 August 2026, formally opening the contest for the presidential and National Assembly elections scheduled for 16 January 2027. With that window now open, three men are expected to dominate the presidential race more than any single party manifesto or policy pledge. President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Anambra State Governor Peter Obi will each commence the campaign carrying a distinct set of assets and a distinct set of vulnerabilities.
