2027: Sensational reports may deepen voter apathy — Amupitan

LAGOS — The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, has warned online publishers against sensational and unverified election reports, saying fake news and misinformation could erode public confidence in the electoral process and deepen voter apathy ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Amupitan gave the warning on Thursday in Lagos while speaking at the 10th Annual Conference of the Guild of Corporate Online Publishers (GOCOP), with the theme, “2027 Elections: Trust, Transparency and Shared Responsibilities.”
