The Bauchi State Government has declared Monday, August 17, 2026, a work-free day to allow residents to participate in the state’s local government elections.
The declaration was announced by the Special Adviser to Governor Bala Mohammed on Media and Publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, following the decision by the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC) to hold elections across the state’s 20 local government areas.
Gidado said the holiday covers civil and public servants at the local, state and federal levels working in Bauchi, as well as employees in the banking sector.
