Puerto Rican Boxer Prichard Colón Dies at 33 After 2015 Brain Injury
Puerto Rican boxer Prichard Colón, who suffered a catastrophic brain injury during a professional bout in 2015, has died at the age of 33.
Colón collapsed in his dressing room after his light-middleweight fight against Terrell Williams in Fairfax, Virginia, in October 2015. During the contest, he repeatedly complained about illegal punches to the back of his head.
He was subsequently diagnosed with a brain haemorrhage and underwent surgery to relieve pressure and swelling. Colón remained in a coma for 221 days before spending the rest of his life in a vegetative state and requiring round-the-clock care.
