British hip-hop artist and producer of Ghanaian descent, Sway DaSafo, has died at the age of 44, just days after celebrating his birthday.
The Music of Black Origin (MOBO) Awards announced his passing on Instagram, alongside a video of him accepting an award in 2005. Born Derek Andrew Safo in North London to Ghanaian parents, the artist made history that year as the first unsigned act to win Best Hip-Hop Act at the MOBO Awards, beating major international artists before even releasing his debut album.
