Days After Commonwealth Record, South African Swimmer Chad le Clos Loses Home in Deadly Fire

South African swimming star Chad le Clos has revealed that his home was destroyed by fire just days after becoming the most decorated athlete in Commonwealth Games history.
The 34-year-old returned from the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow to discover that the blaze had reduced his apartment in the Cape Town suburb of Sea Point to ashes. The fire also claimed the life of a 93-year-old neighbour.
Le Clos had celebrated a historic achievement in Glasgow, winning his 21st Commonwealth Games medal to surpass Australian swimmer Emma McKeon as the most successful athlete in the competition’s history.
