Democracy Day: RECEF Condemns Arrest Of Kogi Journalist, Seeks NSCDC Probe

The Renaissance Care and Empowerment Foundation (RECEF) has called for an immediate investigation into the alleged arrest and detention of the Editor of Kogi Reports, Mr. Opeyemi Owoeye, by operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), describing the action as an abuse of power and a threat to democracy.
In a statement issued to commemorate the June 12 Democracy Day celebration, the Executive Director of RECEF, Amb. Idris Ozovehe Muraina, said the incident, which reportedly occurred less than 24 hours before Democracy Day, reflected a disturbing misunderstanding of democratic principles by some state actors.
