Amazon founder Jeff Bezos has joined Liverpool’s ownership structure after Fenway Sports Group (FAS) agreed to sell about 30 per cent of the Premier League club to an investment consortium led by British-Indian businessman Amit Bhatia.
FSG confirmed the agreement with 1892 Holdings as a “strategic minority investment”, with the deal understood to value Liverpool at between £5bn and £6bn.
The consortium includes Bezos and Facebook co-founder Eduardo Saverin. Bhatia is expected to become Liverpool’s vice-chairman and join the club’s expanded board, subject to regulatory approval, while Bezos will not take a board position.
