The European Commission has allocated €2.3 million in emergency humanitarian funding to Nigeria, Cameroon, the Central African Republic and Chad to support these countries in addressing the ongoing cholera epidemic.
A statement issued on Monday by press and information officer, EU delegation to Nigeria and ECOWAS, Modestus Chukwulaka, quoted the World Health Organisation (WHO) as saying that more than 61,000 cholera cases were reported in the African Region in the first 5 months of 2026.
