The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has announced plans to shut the runway at Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport in Owerri, Imo State, for about 25 days to undertake repairs, resurfacing and extension works.
The proposed closure was announced in a statement issued by FAAN’s director of public affairs and consumer protection, Henry Agbebire, and published on the authority’s official X account.
FAAN said the shutdown is tentatively expected to commence on October 20, 2026, subject to final confirmation, with the work scheduled to last approximately 25 days.
