The Federal Government has urged Nigerian media organisations to stop giving terrorists, bandits and other criminal elements prominent publicity, saying excessive coverage helps amplify their activities.
Minister of Information and National Orientation, Mohammed Idris, made the appeal on Thursday at a National Security Summit organised by the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and the Department of State Services (DSS) in Abuja.
While reaffirming the government’s commitment to press freedom, Idris urged journalists to exercise greater responsibility in reporting security issues.
