INEC extends deadline for submission of governors, state assembly candidates’ list

The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has extended the deadline for the submission (upload on the dedicated portal) of the list of governorship and State Houses of Assembly candidates for the February 2027 general elections.
The submission window, according to the revised timetable and schedule of activities for the general elections, which was originally scheduled to close on Saturday, August 8, 2026, has been extended to Tuesday, August 11.
INEC, in a statement by Mohammed Kudu Haruna, National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education Committee, blamed the extension on growing appeals by political parties for additional time to complete the process. ...
