A magnitude-6.0 earthquake struck the Gulf of California early Tuesday afternoon, according to the U.S. Geological Survey, USGS.
The USGS said the earthquake occurred at about 12:45 p.m. local time, with its epicentre located approximately 46 miles (74 kilometres) south-southwest of El Progreso, Mexico.
The quake struck at a shallow depth of about 6 miles (10 kilometres).
The tremor was felt in several locations, including Los Mochis, Culiacán, Zapopan and other parts of Mexico.
There were no immediate reports of casualties or significant damage following the earthquake.
Authorities were monitoring the situation as assessments continued.
