The Nigerian military has launched air strikes on the Islamic State West Africa Province, ISWAP, in the Sambisa Forest, Borno State, killing a key VIP escort commander, Qaid Abu Khalid Al Muhajir, and eight other fighters.
This is contained in a statement posted on X by security expert, Zagazola Makama, who disclosed that the strikes, conducted on Saturday, August 8, 2026 around the Yuwe and Sabil Huda enclaves in the Sambisa Forest, were highly effective.
He said Abu Khalid is a specialist responsible for providing escorts and coordinating the movement of senior ISWAP commanders and other high-value members of the terrorist group.
