The minister of aviation and aerospace development, Festus Keyamo, has appealed to passengers and other airport users to remain understanding over the planned temporary closure of the Sam Mbakwe International Cargo Airport, Owerri, for about 25 days to allow for runway rehabilitation and extension.
Keyamo, in a statement on Friday, said the closure would commence on October 20, 2026, to facilitate repairs, resurfacing and extension of the runway ahead of the Christmas travel season.
LEADERSHIP had reported the closure of the airport as announced by the Federal Airport Authority of Nigeria (FAAN).
