Nigeria controls 78% of W/African cargo, but loses transshipment business — NCMDLCA

•Calls for experts’ to review port system

The National President of the National Council of Managing Directors of Licensed Customs Agents (NCMDLCA), Lucky Amiwero, has said Nigeria accounts for about 78 per cent of cargo in the West and Central African sub-region but is failing to reap the economic benefits due to inefficiencies in its port system.

Amiwero, who lamented the loss of transit and transshipment cargo to neighbouring countries, including Ghana, Togo, Benin Republic and Cote d’Ivoire, called for a comprehensive review of the nation’s port system to improve efficiency and competitiveness.
