Olatimbo Ayinde: Analyst Warns Against Media Trial In Corruption Cases

A public policy analyst, Tunde Adebayo, has criticised media coverage surrounding Nigerian businesswoman and oil executive Olatimbo Ayinde, arguing that years of reporting on her involvement in a high-profile UK corruption case contributed to reputational damage before the allegations were tested and cleared in court.
In an opinion article following Ayinde’s acquittal by a jury at Southwark Crown Court in London, Adebayo described the case as an example of “trial by headline,” alleging that sections of the media prematurely portrayed Ayinde as guilty due to her association with former Nigeria’s Petroleum Minister, Diezani Alison-Madueke.
