Rivers Communities Protest Oil Firm’s Alleged Illegal Entry Into Ancestral Land

Okoson communities in Andoni local government area of Rivers State on Wednesday staged a protest over alleged illegal entry into their ancestral land by indigenous oil firm, Green Energy and Lekoil.

The protesters, who carried different placards stormed the area in the early hours of Wednesday and performed traditional blockade to the land.

Those who spoke with newsmen accused the oil companies of conniving with a non-indegene, one Chief Gad Harry, to enter their land for oil and gas exploration.

They alleged that letters written to the companies have been ignored, which led to the protest.
