Stockfish price surge: Norwegian exporters blame supply crunch, urge Nigeria to cut duty

Norwegian seafood exporters and industry stakeholders have blamed the soaring price of stockfish in Nigeria on a sharp decline in cod catches, rising raw-material costs and higher import duties, warning that the pressure is making the popular protein source increasingly difficult for low-income households to afford.
The exporters, who spoke during visits to stockfish markets and importers in Lagos, urged the Federal Government to review the import duty on stockfish, particularly stockfish heads, which they described as an affordable source of protein for millions of Nigerians.
