For many Nigerians looking to Canada, the Temporary Foreign Worker Programme can appear to be a straightforward route to securing a job abroad. It is not.
The process begins with the Canadian employer, involves several regulatory checks, and reaches the prospective worker only after important conditions have been met.
Canada is expecting to admit 60,000 temporary foreign workers through the TFWP in 2026, alongside 170,000 workers under its International Mobility Program.
But that figure should not be mistaken for 60,000 jobs waiting for Nigerians or other foreign nationals. Applicants still have to meet the requirements of the programme and secure legitimate employment.
