US President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping have jointly insisted that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open, following high-level talks between both leaders, according to the White House.
The two leaders described their meeting as “good” and agreed on the need to guarantee the uninterrupted flow of global energy through the strategic waterway.
“The two sides agreed that the Strait of Hormuz must remain open to support the free flow of energy,” the White House said.
The Strait of Hormuz is a critical global oil and gas transit route, with about one-fifth of the world’s petroleum passing through it.
