Spain goalkeeper Unai Simón has etched his name into FIFA World Cup history after setting a new record for the longest clean-sheet streak by a goalkeeper in World Cup finals matches.
Simón has now gone 519 consecutive minutes without conceding a goal, surpassing the previous record of 518 minutes set by Italy’s Walter Zenga during the 1990 FIFA World Cup.
The Spain international reached the milestone after recording clean sheets against Cape Verde, Uruguay, Saudi Arabia and Austria during Spain’s campaign at the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup.
His shutout against Austria in the Round of 32 enabled him to move past Zenga’s long-standing mark, which had stood unbroken for 35 years.
