Women’s group hails House of Representatives’ progress in the constitutional amendment process

Following the plenary session of the House of Representatives on June 11, 2026, we provide this update on the Special Seats Bill. The bill, which seeks to reserve legislative seats for women, was not called for a vote due to other listed bills and a delay in resolving the floor disputes. However, the State Police Bill was debated and passed, showing progress in constitutional amendments. 
The Special Seats Bill remains on the order paper and will be considered when the Assembly resumes on July 7, 2026. A key development is the inclusion of two Senate seats per geopolitical zone, totaling twelve reserved seats for women.
