ABUJA — The Federal Government has activated more than 1,400 primary healthcare centres, PHCs, across the country to provide primary eye care services as part of efforts to expand access to quality eye care and reduce avoidable blindness.
The Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq Adekunle Salako, disclosed this on Thursday in Abuja at an event to commemorate the 2026 World Sight Day.
The event, themed, “The Value of Vision: Investing in People, Productivity and Nigeria’s Future,” highlighted the need for sustained investment in eye health and stronger integration of eye care into the primary healthcare system.
