Xenophobia: Reps reject calls for tougher action against South Africa

The House of Representatives has backed Nigeria’s diplomatic approach to recurring xenophobic attacks on Nigerians and other African migrants in South Africa, rejecting calls for tougher measures against the country.
Deputy spokesman of the House, Philip Agbese, said Nigeria’s ongoing diplomatic engagements with the Sout African government were already producing positive results.
Agbese made the position known on Monday while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today.
Asked whether Nigeria should adopt stricter measures in response to the attacks, he said the government’s diplomatic strategy remained the appropriate approach.
