No fewer than 18 states have confirmed their participation in the 2026 Olympic Day Celebration following the decision by the Nigeria Olympic Committee (NOC) Sports For All Commission to postpone the nationwide event by one week.
The annual celebration, originally scheduled for June 27, will now take place across the country on July 4, 2026, after the Main Organising Committee (MOC) approved the adjustment at an emergency meeting held on June 6.
According to the committee, the postponement was necessitated by logistical considerations and is expected to provide participating states with additional time to adequately prepare for a successful celebration.
