The federal government has commenced the construction of a new National Control Centre for the Nigerian Independent System Operator (NISO) in Osogbo, Osun State, to replace the existing 64-year-old facility.
The groundbreaking ceremony was performed by Vice President Kashim Shettima, who was represented by his Senior Special Assistant (Legal), with the Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, in attendance.
The government said the existing control centre had become inadequate for managing Nigeria’s increasingly complex electricity grid, necessitating the construction of a modern facility.
