South African singer Tyla has called for African unity, saying she hopes to see a continent where Africans stand together despite national differences.
Speaking at the South African Music Awards, Tyla said she is proud of her nationality but also stressed the importance of a shared African identity.
“I’m just happy to be South African. I am happy to be African. Most of all, I pray one day to see a unified Africa.”
Her remarks come amid growing tensions between South Africa and other African countries over xenophobic attacks against African migrants.
