The South West has remained the electoral backbone of the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) since Nigeria’s return to democratic rule in 1999. The region has consistently embraced progressive politics, evolving from the Alliance for Democracy (AD) to the Action Congress (AC), Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) and ultimately the APC.
As preparations intensify for the 2027 general election, the APC still enjoys structural dominance across much of the region.
